Economist

The master economist .... must be a mathematician, historian, statesman, philosoper...He must understand symbols and speak in words....He must study the present in the light of the past for the purposes of the future - John Maynard Keynes.

I don't understand why a lot of my students dislike Economics subject especially those who are not in business school. Sometimes I wonder whether they dislike Economics because of the nature of the subject or because they dislike Economics lecturer? When I ask about it to my students, their answers; too many curves and graphs - difficult to understand, too many assumptions - tidak tercapai akalku berfikir, too many calculations - I hate calculation, too many theories - my study need more skills than theories and etc. Thanks God as far as I concern none of my students gave reasons because he or she dislikes the economics lecturer. One of my students from Diploma of Hotel Management asked me why he should learn my subject. For him, it just a waste of time and not related to his study and he is not interested. I gave reasons and examples to him why he should learn economics and I said to him " Believe me, if you still can't understand today why you should learn economics, one day if you are working in your field, you will find that you are using a lot of economics theories". He believed in what I said and scored A for my paper.
