Been Busy & Lazy

MOMENTUM

Don't you think it is quite a contradict statement of have been busy and the same time you are lazy?. But that is the truth for what I feel now. After more than two weeks of having my prelim exam and the balik kampung session I hardly get back momentum to study. There is no more night late study or no more waking up early in the morning to study or solat tahajud.

It is a busy month and yet I'm still struggling to get my momentum to work. I'm still in the early stage of doing my paper project that should be submitted next month. I still trying to finish the regression part despite the problem in my SEM model. Another assignment that should be submitted next week is still left untouched. I need to attend a seminar next week which I half heartedly want to go. Next month also which is only few days away and I have to sit another two coursework exams. And the list my schedule goes on...

ESCAPISM?

My friend asked me to solve her log transformation in the regression model. Despite of been really busy I was willingly said OK and of course it needs not an hour to finish it. But it was not also a burden for me as I was like happily and enjoying myself doing for her ASAP I got her email. Well....usually if I'm really busy I will ask her to give me time and I'll try to do it. I do sometimes feel like running away from my own works to do others people's work and enjoying it. Don't get me wrong I'm willing to help anyone within my capacity of helping.

CONTRADICTED STATEMENT?

On the way to my university, I heard in the radio somebody talked to the Radio DJ about the recession. He told the DJ, that life will be harder because the price will goes up when it is recession. It sounds contradict to the theory like the title of my blog that when you are busy and you are lazy. It should be another way round that if you are busy, you will work harder. Well... back to the topic, thinking of his statement it sounds against the theory. If we study the business cycle topic in economics, you will definitely see that the price will goes down during recession. Aggregate demand will decrease as the income, output will also decrease. It will lead to the prices of the goods to decrease. His statement was totally wrong unless there is a large income gap between rich and poor groups in the society. During the recession the poor group will decrease their demand but the rich group who slightly affected with the economic down turn will slightly change their demand or never change at all . As a result, the poor group will suffer most during recession as the price unchanged or may increase.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH

I always found this quote in economics books. It means that if you want to gain something you have to lose something else. There is no such free thing in this world. Remember the entry I posted few months ago about the advertisement when you give you a diamond to somebody you will get a kiss. In the real world, if you give something/gift to others, actually you are hoping for something such as a love, good friendship, people will be kind to you, or appreciate you and what so ever reasons you have. Even if you said it a sincere gift, you will still expecting something from somebody such at least a thank you. It is still something you expected as a reward for your gift, so there is no really free gift in this world.

I remember those days, when I was invited to go for Hi Tea by my friend, I went there naively and sincerely as I thought she was as sincere as for inviting me. I was not expecting anything that I didn't like to do. I thought it was only about hi tea. I got the hi tea part but it was not a free hi tea as I had to suffer the whole afternoon listening to the MLM talk which I didn't feel like joining them. That time I felt cheated by my friend because she didn't tell me about the whole agenda. There was also a time when I got a call by one the famous hotels giving away a free stay in the hotel. The hotel will only gave the free after 3 hours listening to their ceramah about the hotel membership and asking me to join the membership that cost RMxxxxx.

I thought the past experiences were enough for me to handle such things and I proudly said in my previous entry how I handled the calls from the banks that asked to use their services. But I was totally wrong and forgot the quote in my economics books. I was trapped again with a free gift from somebody I knew that I thought it just a gift but it was not. Then again the whole agenda about selling the products was hidden and I was trapped inside it. If somebody came to me and I asked to buy their products and I got distracted with them I will usually buy the product if only that that thing can be used by me and the price is reasonable. I will buy it just for the sake of getting rid of this person. But not this time, the price is unreasonable for me to pay. Not enough with the meeting, then I was distracted with the calls and messages persuaded me to buy the products.

I felt they intruded in other people’s privacy, pushing me to the limit where I think I was emotionally and mentally tortured (am I suing the right word) by these persons. The worst part is that as they were asking the phone numbers people around me. I know it is recession, this people are desperately needs to increase their sales but the strategy using the hiding agenda and “seducing” others to buy the goods was really unacceptable.

That small free gift has costed me to pay with peaceful life. Sometimes I don't it is worth it at all but it teaches the same lesson as previous years; there is such thing as a free lunch. You have to pay for it

GATHERING

We are planning for our ex uni second gathering. Been busy for the couple of weeks, it was not an excuse for me as I was indirectly in charge to assemble 10% of my ex uni friends in Putrajaya next week for a meeting on our second gathering (Full schedule for next week). To bring together this 10% of my ex uni friends is not a simple task as all of them have their own commitment. To synchronize their time and availability for the meeting is a major headache. It was bit simpler during the first gathering and the farewell party right after we finished our study as most of them is still without commitment or holding important posts in their organizations.
I met one of my ex uni friends recently and asking her to go for that meeting. She was totally different from university years. Mature and confident in her own way. Meeting her reminded me of something, she is just like a mirror to myself and reminded that I'm not getting younger each day.

POLITICS

This is the first time ever I write about politics in my blog. I'm not the fan of any politicians or politics in our country. I blame on the current politics situation that I have no more read the leading newspapers or watch news at 8 p.m. I'm totally not blaming for my "busyness" for not reading or watching the news. It is up to my level of puking when I try to understand the current political situation.

I used to take a paper of Politics in Economics as an option paper during my university years. It was an interesting paper which there are three different lectures specializing in their areas taught us. I enjoyed the class but didn't enjoy the politics in reality. I remembered when my lecturer said there is no such a real democracy in this world. The system of 1 person = 1 vote, does it really potray a democracy? What if there is a ranking in voting, does it show less democracy? I really don't understand this why people are fighting for a real democracy and said "there is no more democracy in the country". Is it really good to have a real democracy? But don't get me wrong I’m not against the democracy or asking for the communism.

Another thing is that I wonder why can't people with 2 similarities and only a difference cannot work together hand in hand. Two is more dominant than one. They have the same race and religion but just have a different in ideology. Why should they are fighting with each other for the only difference and never work on their similarities. Why should they quarrel publicly for something that will jeopardize the country and the religion? Doesn't it clear in our religion who should be our allies and who should not?. May be I’m too idealistic on this matter.

Then, I don't understand why somebody that was found guilty for in money politics is still accepted as a leader? Is money too powerful now?

Lastly, I also wonder why on earth I ramble about the politics which I don't really comprehend and totally not interested. May be another escapism for me or may be this is what we call been busy but too lazy to do my own work?.

Dear Azuriy, Assalamua'laikum,

MOMENTUM;
As an ordinary people, our momentum is like our "iman", it is fluctuating. So, don't get disturbed by the situation. What we need to do is to ensure to maintain the existence of the 'momentum' inside us. I would suggest you to have your own schedule (any design will do)for the whole semester and/or the whole program. This can make you keep on track as well, while visualizing your whole status of your study. Remember, your PhD study is your 'project', and every project should have a plan schedule for progress monitoring.

ESCAPISM;
Don't you realize that you are doing the right thing, Sis?! - help your studying collegues within your capacity of helping. Since you really enjoy doing it, I believe you are doing it honestly. InsyaAllah, because of that, maybe you will find somethings like, new idea, solutions to your problems, etc. while helping your friend's work. I called that a benefit escapism. Enjoy it Sis.

...To be continued..

Keep smiling Sis, I'm happy when you're happy.

Assalamua'laikum,

Let me start this time with a scenario highlighted by nurr;..banyaknya isu, tak tahu nak komen mana satu!

In my opinion, the statement is right. When we look at the number of the issues, we normally be like, don't know what to do. Don't know which issue to tackle first. Then we don't do anything, because we still looking at the number of the issues. And, I think you also know what will happen next, right Sis?! Not a single issue solved, but the number of issues keep increasing.

By hook or by crook, we need to revisit all the issues. We cannot actually solve the problem, we need to 'face' the problem. Then 'handle' them one after another after giving priority.

In our daily life, I believe we always have few categories of 'things to be done' namely, things to do for personal, related to job, related to people surrounding you, etc. And each categories has its own list. Base on the experiences I went thru, I now don't really border anything about the 'issues' to come to my life (type of issue, the number, the size, who involved, etc.). No matter how we control or try to avoid, they will still come to me anyway. What I do, I just face them and like to see any of the issues been canceled off from the list everyday.

Sis, if I 'fight' with the problem, I surely be defeated. If I 'run' from the problem, they are not solved and I surely will meet them again later. So I face them. It is Allah who actually 'solve' any problems,not us.

CONTRADICT STATEMENT;
I believe what you've mentioned, and I'm on your side (100%)coz you hold on the proven theory. However, I found this joke that make me crying..(coz laughing too much). It says; The First Law of Economists: For every economist, there exists an equal and opposite economist.
The Second Law of Economists: They're both wrong.
..He.He.He kreok! Sorry Sis, don't get me wrong, it is just a joke.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE LUNCH;
Yes! agreed. Even for 'kenduri kahwin'. We are invited, however, we still feel need to give at least RM5 before we leave. Huu..Huu..Huu

GATHERING;
My comment,...hmmm..
Be Yourself! Allah is very fare.

POLITICS;
My comment,..please apply the first & the second Law of Economist mentioned above. Just change the word Economist to Politicians. Problem solved! Yes! He3x.

Keep smiling Sis. I-lal-li-qa' Was-sa-la-mah.
